An established and well-regarded accountancy and tax practice based in South East London is seeking an experienced Practice Manager to oversee the operational, financial and compliance functions of the firm.
This is a senior, hands-on role working closely with the partners to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the practice while supporting strategic growth and maintaining high standards of client service.
Role
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the practice, ensuring efficient workflows and processes
- Work closely with partners on strategic planning, financial performance and business growth
- Monitor WIP, billing, debtors and key performance indicators
- Ensure compliance with GDPR, AML regulations and professional standards
- Manage client onboarding and maintain strong client relationships
- Act as a key point of contact for clients and HMRC
- Conduct client tax review meetings and identify value-added opportunities
- Prepare or oversee the preparation of VAT returns, year-end accounts, corporate and personal tax returns
- Manage payroll and CIS delivery through the team
- Review client profitability and engagement suitability
- Support and oversee audit assignments, ensuring compliance with auditing standards
- Act as Responsible Individual (RI) where applicable, or work towards RI status with full partner support
- Identify operational efficiencies and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Support marketing, networking and business development activity
- Undertake ad-hoc duties as required by senior management
Requirements
- ACA or ACCA qualified
- Strong experience within an accountancy practice
- Proven experience in practice management or a senior managerial role
- Strong technical knowledge across accounts, tax, compliance and audit
- Audit experience essential; RI status preferred but not essential
- Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills
- Confident managing staff, clients and operational processes
- Commercially aware with a proactive, problem-solving mindset
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment
