Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Costs Draftsperson / Costs Lawyer to join their London, Greater London office. This is an excellent opportunity for a specialist costs professional with strong legal aid experience, particularly within family law, to join a well-established and growing team. The successful candidate will play a key role in maximising cost recovery, managing complex legal aid billing matters, and supporting colleagues with technical costs advice and best practice.
The Role
- Preparing and submitting legal aid bills, including fixed fee, exceptional case and high-cost case claims
- Managing CCMS submissions and ensuring compliance with Legal Aid Agency requirements
- Preparing and submitting supporting documentation and cost bundles
- Drafting interim and final private client bills of costs
- Advising on costs recovery strategies and negotiating costs settlements
- Serving bills in accordance with procedural requirements and costs protocols
- Liaising with fee earners, counsel, chambers and third parties regarding costs recovery
- Monitoring recoverable disbursements and ensuring claims are submitted promptly
- Supporting file closure processes and related administration
- Providing guidance and training to colleagues on costs matters and best practice
- Keeping up to date with developments in legal aid funding and costs legislation
The Candidate
- Minimum 1 years' experience as a Costs Draftsperson or Costs Lawyer
- Strong background in legal aid costs, ideally within family law
- Experience preparing inter partes bills and high-cost case claims
- Excellent working knowledge of CCMS and Legal Aid Agency procedures
- Strong understanding of costs law and Civil Procedure Rules relating to costs
- Experience negotiating costs and maximising recovery
- Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
- Strong organisational and time management abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and Costs Master
- Professional and approachable manner
