Overview

My client is a leading tax, accountancy and business advisory firm founded on personal integrity and technical expertise. They are looking for a VAT Assistant Manager to provide advisory services across a diverse client base, including corporate and international clients. The role involves supporting clients with VAT planning, real estate transactions, partial exemption and VAT recovery issues, and providing guidance on multi-jurisdictional VAT and customs duty matters. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to business development, client training, and technical research projects. One of the main areas you will be working on is advising on complex VAT and customs duty queries, supporting negotiations with HMRC, and delivering bespoke advisory solutions to a variety of clients. Additionally, you will manage your own portfolio of clients, providing day-to-day advice, preparing technical analyses, and supporting the wider corporate tax team.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to business development initiatives, client training, and technical research projects.

Qualifications

  • CTA qualified, part-qualified (indirect tax route), or ATT qualified with willingness to study for CTA.
  • Strong understanding of VAT legislation, HMRC policy, and recent case law.
  • Experience advising on real estate transactions, partial exemption, VAT recovery, and place of establishment for multinational clients.
  • Exposure to customs duty and international supply chain projects is desirable.
  • Experience drafting VAT technical reports, client alerts, and training materials.
  • Experience reviewing and delivering complex VAT advisory work, including due diligence, structuring, and restructuring advice.
  • Supervisory experience and ability to review the work of junior colleagues.

  • Experience working with a diverse client portfolio across multiple sectors.
  • Providing advice to corporate and international clients.
  • Collaborating with client teams including finance, tax, and operations.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, confident interacting with clients and HMRC.
