An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Criminal Duty Solicitor to join my client's team in their Newcastle offices. The successful candidate will undertake a diverse caseload of criminal matters, including providing representation at the police station and undertaking court work. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated solicitor who wants to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment within a supportive team.
Key Responsibilities And Duties
- Providing clear, accurate and timely advice, assistance, and representation to clients across a broad spectrum of criminal matters.
- Managing a busy and fast-moving caseload while maintaining excellent client care and meeting key deadlines.
- Ensuring full compliance with regulatory and contractual obligations, including those set by the Legal Aid Agency and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
- Accurately recording time, progressing matters efficiently, and meeting agreed billing/performance targets.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the department, offering support and contributing to a positive team culture.
- Keeping your legal knowledge up to date, participating in supervision, and maintaining relevant accreditations.
Skills & Experience
- A qualified solicitor with experience in criminal law; Duty Solicitor accreditation is desirable but not essential.
- A demonstrable commitment to publicly funded work and to ensuring equitable access to justice for all clients.
- Ability and willingness to undertake police station advice work, including participation in the duty rota once accredited.
- Excellent communication, analytical and advocacy skills.
- Strong organisational capabilities with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- A professional and supportive approach to teamwork, combined with the ability to work independently when required.
- A proactive attitude towards compliance, risk management and continuous improvement.
