Our client is recruiting for a Head of Compliance to join their law firm in Mayfair, London. This is a senior compliance position within an established and regulated practice. The successful candidate will take ownership of day‑to‑day compliance operations and, in due course, assume responsibility as the firm's Anti‑Money Laundering Officer.
The Head of Compliance will be responsible for ensuring the firm's ongoing adherence to regulatory and statutory obligations, with particular focus on the Solicitors Regulation Authority regime and Anti‑Money Laundering framework. You will work closely with senior management and support the firm's Compliance Officer for Legal Practice, acting as a central point of contact for regulatory matters.
Key Responsibilities- Managing all day‑to‑day compliance matters across the firm
- Ensuring full compliance with SRA Standards and Regulations
- Overseeing and developing AML policies, controls and procedures
- Acting as Money Laundering Reporting Officer / AML Officer in due course
- Delivering compliance training to legal and support staff
- Supporting the Compliance Officer for Legal Practice
- Monitoring regulatory updates and implementing procedural changes
- Advising Partners and senior stakeholders on risk and regulatory exposure
- Maintaining compliance documentation, registers and internal controls
- Managing regulatory audits, file reviews and internal monitoring
- Strong working knowledge of SRA Standards and Regulations
- Extensive understanding of UK AML legislation and compliance frameworks
- Experience operating within a regulated law firm environment
- Previous experience in a senior compliance role within legal practice
- Confident delivering training and advising senior stakeholders
- Commercially aware with the ability to balance regulatory requirements with operational realities
- Methodical, discreet and highly organised
