We’re working with a growing telecommunications technology business looking to recruit a Technical Product Owner to support the continued development of its product offering.

Working closely with product leadership, engineering, technical solutions and sales, you will act as the link between customer requirements and engineering delivery.

You will translate customer and business needs into clear, engineering-focused specifications, manage the product backlog and coordinate the sprint process to ensure engineering teams have the information they need to deliver.

The business is experiencing increased customer demand and expanding into new markets, creating a need for additional support across product requirements and delivery.

This is an opportunity to join a lean, collaborative team where you will have autonomy and work closely with senior stakeholders.

The focus is on defining what needs to be built and why, rather than writing production code or dictating every aspect of the technical implementation.

Your work will give engineers the clarity they need to deliver high-quality solutions efficiently.

Alongside core product delivery, you will have opportunities to collaborate with the innovation team, explore emerging customer needs and help shape prototypes and potential new solutions.

  • Responsibilities & Accountabilities for the role of Technical Product Owner:
  • Gathering customer and business requirements and translating these into clear, engineering-ready product specifications, user stories and acceptance criteria, including API and integration specifications, data definitions, and non-functional requirements such as performance, availability and security.
  • Working with sales and customer-facing teams to clarify technical feasibility and document customer needs for engineering.
  • Owning and maintaining the product backlog, ensuring requirements are prioritised, well documented and ready for development.
  • Facilitating sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews and retrospectives in partnership with engineering leads.
  • Leading prioritisation discussions, assessing effort, dependencies and trade-offs, and escalating decisions where required.
  • Working closely with engineering and technical solutions teams to resolve queries and ensure requirements are understood.
  • Reviewing completed work against agreed requirements and supporting release readiness and product documentation.

Experience required for the role of Technical Product Owner

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years' experience as a Product Owner, Technical Business Analyst, Systems Analyst or similar role working with software engineering teams.
  • Telecommunications experience is essential, ideally within telecoms data or telecoms products.
  • Experience translating customer and business requirements into clear specifications, user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Strong experience managing product backlogs and working within an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Background in telecommunications, such as number portability, numbering plans, telephone number data, voice or SMS routing, or A2P (application-to-person) messaging.
  • Solid technical understanding of software systems, including APIs, data flows, integrations and system architecture, with the ability to discuss design trade-offs with engineers (writing production code is not required).
  • Experience working with customer-facing teams, sales or pre-sales in a B2B technology environment.
  • Experience facilitating prioritisation discussions using structured approaches such as WSJF, RICE or Mo SCo W.
  • Basic SQL knowledge and familiarity with Jira, Confluence or similar tools.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Familiarity with telecom query protocols and interfaces, such as SIP, ENUM and HTTPS/REST APIs, or with mobile network operator (MNO) APIs.
