The Role
Are you an experienced data leader who is passionate about building high-performing teams and delivering modern, scalable data solutions?
We're looking for a Data Engineering Manager to lead our Data Engineering function and play a key role in delivering our data strategy and transformation agenda. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of data across the business, driving innovation, enabling data-informed decision making, and ensuring our data platforms and pipelines are secure, reliable and fit for the future.
Working closely with the Head of Data & Analytics, you'll provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership, helping to build a data environment that empowers teams across the organisation to unlock value from data.
What we want you to do
-
Lead and evolve the Data Engineering function, ensuring the right people, processes, platforms and capabilities are in place to deliver business value.
-
Own and deliver the Data Engineering roadmap, partnering with senior stakeholders to align priorities with organisational objectives and future growth.
-
Drive the design, delivery and optimisation of scalable, secure and resilient data platforms, pipelines and integrations that enable trusted, data-driven decision making.
-
Provide technical and people leadership, establishing engineering standards and best practices while coaching and developing a high-performing team.
-
Champion innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement, enhancing automation, governance and engineering maturity while fostering strong relationships across business and technology teams.
What success in the role looks like
-
Successfully delivering the Data Engineering roadmap against strategic business objectives.
-
Maintaining a resilient, secure and scalable data platform that supports the growing needs of the organisation.
-
Developing a highly engaged and high-performing Data Engineering team with clear succession and development plans.
-
Improving data quality, governance, accessibility and adoption across the business.
-
Building effective partnerships with stakeholders and suppliers that deliver measurable business value.
What you’ll bring to the role
-
Proven leadership experience managing and developing Data Engineering or similar technical teams within complex business environments.
-
Extensive experience designing, delivering and supporting enterprise-scale data platforms, pipelines and integration solutions, with a proven track record delivering successful data transformation initiatives.
-
Strong technical expertise in Azure, Databricks, T-SQL and modern cloud-based data technologies, with a solid understanding of data architecture, integration patterns and governance principles.
-
Demonstrated ability to develop technical roadmaps and translate strategic goals into delivery plans, while effectively managing stakeholders, third-party suppliers and multiple data sources.
-
Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire, develop and engage both technical and non-technical teams.
-
Proven stakeholder management skills, building trusted relationships and influencing outcomes across all levels of the organisation.
-
A strategic and commercially minded approach, able to translate business objectives into effective technical solutions and priorities.
-
Highly organised and adaptable, with excellent planning, decision-making and problem-solving skills in fast-paced and evolving environments.
