The Role – Senior R&D Power System Consultant

As Senior R&D Power System Consultant, you will be central to the design and development of next-generation energy technologies. Working closely with both the R&D and Operations teams, you will apply advanced modelling, signal processing, and machine learning techniques to support the delivery and optimisation of new and existing products.

You’ll own technical projects from concept to implementation and act as a bridge between internal teams and key industry stakeholders such as TSOs and DNOs, ensuring the solutions developed are not only innovative but also practical and relevant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support R&D initiatives through advanced power systems modelling and data analysis
  • Lead technical delivery of projects from concept to deployment
  • Engage directly with TSOs, DNOs, and industry stakeholders
  • Contribute to the scoping and delivery of commercial tenders and proposals
  • Stay ahead of emerging industry challenges such as low inertia, high ROCOF, and system strength

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Strong background in power systems engineering
  • Proficiency in PSSE or PSCAD
  • Experience with PMUs , WAMS , and system oscillation analysis
  • Demonstrated R&D experience within grid, utility, or energy services
  • Understanding of commercial processes, including tendering and costing
  • Advanced degree: PhD or Master’s in Electrical Engineering

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience addressing low inertia and high ROCOF system challenges
  • Knowledge of smart grid technologies within a DSO/TSO environment
  • Comfortable in a client-facing or stakeholder-engagement capacity
