Consultant Ecologist
Location: Birmingham
Flexible Remote Work: 2 days in the office/on-site, 2 days working from home
Salary: £29,000 – £36,000 per annum, depending on experience

The Role – Consultant Ecologist:
As an Ecological Consultant, you’ll be the go-to expert for leading your own exciting projects. Your role will involve:
- Conducting a variety of ecological surveys, including protected species surveys and habitat assessments (UKHab).
- Preparing comprehensive ecological reports, such as Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments.
- Advising clients on ecological constraints, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.
- Collaborating with landscape planning and arboriculture teams to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Supporting the preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and planning applications.
- Liaising with clients, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery.
- Contributing to fee proposals and tender documents.
Essential Attributes:
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in ecological consultancy or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and planning policies.
- Proven experience in conducting and leading a variety of ecological surveys.
- Working knowledge of UKHab survey techniques and Statutory BNG.
- Desired experience using GIS to produce highly accurate digital outputs (QGIS).
- Excellent report-writing skills with attention to detail.
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) or working towards it.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- A full UK driving license and willingness to travel to project sites.
