An established environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join its growing ecology team in Birmingham. This is an opportunity to play a leading role in delivering high-quality ecological work across planning, infrastructure and nature recovery projects, within a collaborative and people-focused environment. The organisation is known for its progressive approach, strong technical standards and commitment to sustainable working practices.
The Role
- You will take a key role in leading ecological projects, managing client relationships and supporting the development of the wider ecology team.
- The position offers a varied workload and the opportunity to work closely with other environmental disciplines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Project management and client liaison
- Delivery of Preliminary Ecology Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments
- Habitats Regulations Assessments
- Biodiversity Net Gain assessments
- Protected species surveys, reporting and licensing support
- Design of mitigation and enhancement strategies
- Scoping, planning and leading ecological surveys
- Mentoring and supporting consultants and assistants
- Contributing to business development and securing new work
About You
- Degree (or higher) in ecology, biological sciences or a related discipline
- Strong understanding of UK ecological legislation and planning policy
- Excellent survey skills, including UK Habitat Classification and specialist species surveys
- Experience liaising with clients, statutory bodies and local planning authorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to manage projects, budgets and deadlines
- A collaborative, values-led approach to working
- Full UK driving licence
