Role Overview
Cleaner Bentham is seeking an Operations Director to serve as a volunteer member of the Board and provide strategic oversight of the organisation's operations, internal processes, and organisational development. Working alongside fellow Board members, Directors, and project teams, the Operations Director will help strengthen the systems and processes that support Cleaner Bentham's programmes and volunteers. The role will contribute to operational planning, organisational effectiveness, good governance, and the sustainable growth of the organisation.
This position is suitable for someone with strong organisational and leadership skills who would like to contribute their experience to a growing community-focused organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Cleaner Bentham Board and contribute to organisational strategy, governance, and decision-making.
- Provide strategic oversight of the organisation's operational activities and internal processes.
- Support the development and implementation of operational plans, policies, procedures, and working practices.
- Work with Directors and project leads to ensure programmes and activities are effectively coordinated.
- Help establish clear systems for planning, documentation, reporting, and internal accountability.
- Support volunteer coordination and help strengthen processes that enable volunteers to work effectively.
- Identify operational risks, capacity gaps, and opportunities to improve organisational effectiveness.
- Contribute to partnership, funding, and organisational development discussions where operational input is required.
- Support the Board in monitoring progress against organisational priorities and agreed actions.
- Promote responsible, transparent, and effective use of organisational resources.
Skills and Experience
- Experience or knowledge in operations, organisational management, project management, governance, business administration, or a related area.
- Strong organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to develop practical systems and improve processes.
- Confidence working collaboratively with senior volunteers, Board members, and project teams.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgement.
- Interest in community wellbeing, environmental sustainability, or social impact.
- Previous Board, nonprofit, community organisation, or volunteer leadership experience is helpful but not required.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 10β20 hours per month with a flexible schedule.
- Work can largely be carried out remotely.
- Participation in Board meetings and occasional virtual coordination with the wider team will be required.
