In order to ensure that all duties within the department are performed efficiently, we are looking for a flexible Terminal Supervisor for our Heavy Lift Department in Purfleet working within a team providing cover over a 7 day 24 hr period.
Your role
- To ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the operation within the Department
- Assist in the effective movement of labour within the operations, ensuring it is a flexible and highly skilled workforce.
- Maintain a high level of Health & Safety practices working within predetermined policies and procedures.
- To lead by example, promoting a safe and healthy environment within the Terminal.
- Undertake regular audits to ensure Health & Safety procedures are met and best practice is observed.
- Analyse all accidents, incidents and damage caused on the terminal by members of staff within terminal operations and to recommend preventative measures for the future.
- To oversee incoming volumes and ensure enough space is available on the Terminal.
- To keep accurate records on all aspects of the operation as requested.
- Review the service given to customers and make recommendations of improving the service in operational areas.
- To be part of regular meetings with the Terminal Operations Manager and the other Supervisors to discuss issues relating to the business.
- Ensure that Company KPI’s are met and to proactively suggest ideas and solutions for improvement.
- To have a working knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures.
- Undertake required administrative tasks i. e. Return to Work Interviews, Incident Reports & Investigations etc.
Your profile
- Demonstrates a proactive commitment to Health & Safety, always promoting a positive safety culture..
- Previous Supervisory experience within an operational environment.
- Although not essential; experience of container, port, terminal, or logistics operations is desirable
- Health & Safety IOSH Supervisory qualification or equivalent.
- Excellent organsional skills, communication and problem solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Proven ability to prioritise workloads, coordinate resources and consistently meet operational deadlines and performance targets
- To have good IT skills including Microsoft Office, and the ability to use operational management systems
- Flexible approach to working hours including shift work, weekends and overtime where operationally required.
- Self motivated with the ability to work independently while leading and motivating a team.
