This role will be responsible and accountable for providing support in the management of the fleet (asset management) of CLdN’s land‑based equipment, including but not limited to terminal equipment, line equipment, cargo equipment and terminal vehicles.

Your role

  • General Technical: Start up, coordinate and monitor new projects from A to Z, which are then translated into processes on the work floor, either at the terminals or in the workshops.
  • Contribute to subtasks of larger (organisation‑wide) projects, e.g. introduction of new maintenance software, construction of new workshops, expansion of terminals, etc.
  • Work closely with local management on matters affecting the operational effectiveness of the cranes and Asset Management Systems and conduct rectification works as required, promptly, cost effectively and efficiently.
  • Work closely with the group workshop management and project engineering members on all major work conducted in all workshops.
  • Perform (cost) analyses relating to terminal equipment, line equipment and cranes, and provide action plans based on results obtained.
  • Follow up on technical problems relating to CLdN’s land‑based equipment by communicating with the supplier and various CLdN workshops.
  • Critique existing processes and continuously improve where necessary through digitisation and automation.
  • Provide technical support for problems relating to automated processes.
  • Ensure all legal requirements in relation to the maintenance activities of CLdN’s land‑based equipment are adhered to with particular focus on the portal crane fleet.
  • Meet on a regular basis with the Project engineering team to enable tracking & validation of projects.

Health & Safety

  • Work closely with CLdN Health & Safety department, ensure all work undertaken is compliant with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation and company policies/procedures.

Contractors

  • When required, source local and/or national suppliers, and maintain a list of approved suppliers (such approval including acceptance of CLdN’s terms and conditions and sign off by CLdN Legal of suppliers T&Cs).
  • Monitor supplier performance and compliance with CLdN’s procedures.
  • Ensure that all work conducted meets agreed specifications and approve all work conducted by contractors before they leave the terminal or before any invoices are authorised.
  • Consult with Terminal Managers prior to scheduling any works in order to minimise operational disruption.

Costs

  • Play an active part in analysing workshop expenditure through periodic reporting and presentations.
  • Conduct regular benchmarking exercises to compare workshop outputs, efficiencies and growth.

Records & Reporting

  • Produce and submit management reports as required on specific data sets as required by senior management.
  • Assist and maintain in the upkeep of the software systems being used in day‑to‑day workshop operations within the group, such as Microsoft Dynamics Navision, Microsoft Access Databases, Ultimo, etc.

Administration

  • Arrange and coordinate with CLdN Customs for the required formalities to be completed in accordance with legislation, to allow the freedom of movement of terminal equipment, parts and components thereof.
  • Ensure all company policies and procedures are followed, and a positive image of the company maintained.
  • Undertake any training, determined by management, enabling the post holder to fulfil the role efficiently.
  • Carry out any other duties and tasks within their skill and capability, when requested to do so.
  • Ensure, and document, that all staff are sufficiently trained for the work carried out.
  • Travel between terminals as required in the UK, Ireland and on the continent.
  • Assist with the coaching, development and mentoring of employees particularly project engineers.

Your profile

  • Possess 3 – 5 years relevant professional / technical experience.
  • Be able to carry out mechanical and electrical work, diagnostics and repairs.
  • You will have previous experience in a similar role working with heavy plant and machinery.
  • It is essential you have a pro‑active approach towards problem solving, workload and time management with good knowledge of Health and Safety.
  • You will have good interpersonal and communication skills as well as proficiency with bespoke and Microsoft systems.
  • You must be a self‑motivated individual.
  • Good timekeeping is essential.
  • Ability to prioritise workload whilst working to tight timescales in accordance with company policies.
  • You must be able to work within a team.
  • A flexible approach to work is necessary as you will be expected to cover when required.
  • Must be willing to undertake any duties that may arise to contribute to the day‑to‑day running of the workshop.
  • You must be willing to work to a flexible timetable to meet the changing patterns of work which could include working at other CLdN Ports across the UK and Europe, along with shifts including weekend cover.
