Main Duties:
- The prime role of a Legal Secretary is to provide secretarial support to the care and public team lawyers.
- Typing documents including court documents and applications, emails and file notes for the fee earners.
- Preparing legal aid applications on CCMS.
- Opening files on the case management system.
- Answering calls and assisting clients with enquiries.
- Liaising with clients/professionals to arrange appointments/meetings.
- Dealing with incoming emails/post and corresponding as appropriate.
- Digital dictation (BigHand).
- Ensuring the case management database is continually kept updated.
- Ensuring files are fully time recorded for billing.
- Preparing Court bundles.
- Assisting other fee earners within the team.
- Ensuring the experts' register is updated.
- Providing cover for other secretaries in their absence.
- Assisting fee earners with billing and closing files, as well as invoices.
Skills Required:
- Previous experience of working within a Care department at a firm of solicitors, or other similar experience.
- Good telephone manner.
- Good typing skills and use of digital dictation.
- Highly motivated.
- Highly organised.
- Willingness to take on new tasks.
- Proactive and using initiative.
- Efficient.
- Able to prioritise workloads of different fee earners.
