What you will actually be doing
From day one, you will be trusted with meaningful exposure across the full criminal defence process, including:
- Police station attendance and client advice
- Magistrates' Court work and early advocacy
- Supporting on Crown Court matters with experienced fee earners
- Building your own caseload with guidance and oversight
- Developing real courtroom confidence, not just file work
You won't be waiting years for your first proper opportunities - you'll be building them immediately, with support behind you every step of the way.
What I am looking for
Open-minded on background and training route - what matters most is attitude and ambition.
You will likely have:
- Recently qualified as a Solicitor (Criminal Law)
- Some experience in criminal advocacy (training or post-qualification)
- Confidence or willingness to attend police stations
- Strong communication and client care skills
- A proactive, grounded and professional approach
- The desire to build a long‑term reputation in criminal defence
