Clayton Legal is currently working with a well-established and highly regarded high street law firm in Northumberland, which is looking to strengthen its team with the appointment of a Legal Receptionist. The firm has a strong connection with the local community and advises a broad range of private and professional clients across a variety of legal matters. This is an excellent opportunity to join a friendly, established practice and play an important role in supporting the Partners and wider team with the day-to-day running of the firm.

The Role

This is a varied, client-facing position and would suit someone who enjoys working with people, is highly organised and takes pride in providing an excellent first impression. As the first point of contact for many of the firm's clients, whether in person, by telephone or via email, you will play an important role in ensuring clients receive a professional and welcoming service.

  • Welcoming clients and visitors to the firm
  • Answering telephone calls and taking accurate, concise messages
  • Diary management and arranging appointments
  • Managing outgoing post
  • Sending and receiving emails
  • File retrieval, archiving and destruction
  • Opening new files and assisting with the preparation of client care letters and terms of business
  • Providing general administrative support to Partners and the wider team
  • Using Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience within a legal, professional services or client-facing environment, although relevant administrative and customer service experience will also be considered. You’ll need to be:

  • Professional, approachable and confident when dealing with clients
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Comfortable managing a varied workload
  • A clear and confident communicator
  • IT literate, with good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a small, close-knit team

Previous experience of undertaking legal secretarial duties would be advantageous but experience in similar roles in other sectors would also be considered. Knowledge or experience of preparing Land Registry and Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) forms would also be beneficial.
