The Role

As a Manufacturing Operative at Clayton Glass, you will play an essential role in the manufacturing and processing of high‑quality glass products. Your responsibilities will include supporting our production processes, ensuring top‑notch quality, and adhering to safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operating Machinery – operating various machines involved in cutting, shaping, and processing glass in accordance with operational instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Handling and Processing Glass – safely loading and unloading glass onto production lines or machines and ensuring that glass sheets or components are handled with care to avoid damage.
  • Quality Control – conducting quality checks on finished glass products to identify defects such as cracks or chips, and reporting any issues to your supervisor.
  • Assembly and Packaging – assisting with the assembly of glass units, such as double glazing, and packaging products for safe transportation or further production stages.
  • Safety and Maintenance – ensuring all tasks are performed in compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting basic maintenance checks on equipment, and reporting any faults or malfunctions.
  • Material Handling – moving raw materials to the production area and organizing inventory as needed to keep the production process flowing smoothly.
  • General Production Support – working closely with your team to meet production targets, maintaining a clean workspace, and supporting various tasks as needed to ensure an efficient workflow.

  • Able to follow instructions accurately and perform tasks diligently.
  • Punctual, with a strong attendance record, and fully committed to your shift hours.
  • Manual dexterity, good hand‑eye coordination, and physical fitness, as the role involves lifting and standing.

Desirable (Non‑Essential) Criteria

  • Previous experience in a factory or manufacturing environment.
  • Flexibility in working hours, with the ability to work night shifts if required.
  • Driving Licence.

Additional Information

  • Location: Clayton Glass, Harelaw Industrial Estate, North Road, Stanley, Durham, DH9 8UX.
  • Working Hours / Shift Pattern: 37.5 hours per week with rotating shifts.
  • Week 1: Monday – Friday, 06:00 – 14:00.
  • Week 2: Monday‑Thursday, 14:00-22:30; Friday 14:00 – 19:30.

Salary

£12.71 per hour, with shift allowance considerations applicable upon successful completion of the 3‑month probationary period.
