Clayton Engineering Limited is looking for a practical, detail-focused Electrical Fitter to support the assembly, installation, repair and maintenance of specialist mechanical equipment, including lifeboat carriages and lifeboat launch and recovery tractors. This is a hands-on role for someone who can work confidently from mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, job cards and operational documentation, while maintaining high standards of quality, safety and workmanship.
As an Electrical Fitter, you will work closely with engineering, production and support teams to help build, test and maintain launch and recovery equipment. You will also support the resolution of technical issues and contribute to safe, efficient and reliable production processes.
Key responsibilities:
- Assemble, repair and maintain launch and recovery equipment, including fitting mechanical and electrical components.
- Work accurately from mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and operational documentation.
- Complete job cards, operation manual paperwork and other production records as required.
- Support the helpdesk with electrical and electronic issues when needed.
- Work with the Operations Team to ensure tasks are completed to schedule.
- Maintain safe, clean working areas in line with company standards.
- Follow company health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Support continuous improvement activities to help improve operational practices.
- Use information technology to support productivity and business information.
- Assist other areas of production when required.
About you:
- A methodical approach to engineering and strong attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings.
- Sound knowledge of electronics, electrical wiring, electrical assembly and mechanical fitting.
- Working knowledge of hydraulics and hydraulic systems - desirable.
- Experience using cranes and power tools.
- Good communication, numeracy and basic IT skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and follow agreed processes.
- Punctual, professional and committed to maintaining high standards.
- A clean full driving licence.
Experience and qualifications:
If you are a practical, reliable electrician who enjoys varied hands-on work and takes pride in producing safe, high-quality equipment, we would be pleased to hear from you. City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering is desirable. Experience across electrical and mechanical engineering disciplines is desirable. Time-served experience in a relevant discipline will also be considered.
