We are looking to hire a QC Inspector on a full time, permanent basis. Based at our facility in Great Yarmouth, the QC Inspector is to ensure that all manufactured, fabricated and supplied products meet Claxton's technical, quality, and contractual requirements before and upon arrival to site, reducing rework, delays and cost of poor quality (COPQ). This role extends beyond goods-in inspection and requires proactive engagement with manufacturers, suppliers, project teams and internal stakeholders to improve quality outcomes across the full lifecycle of equipment and components.
Duties & Main Responsibilities
- Conduct dimensional, visual, and welding inspections of components and assemblies at our Claxton facilities (goods inwards and in-process) and supplier premises (machine shops, fabrication yards, coating vendors, etc.)
- Verify compliance against Engineering drawings and tolerances, Material specifications and certification and Applicable industry standards (API, ISO, ASME, client-specific)
- Perform inspection of welds in accordance with approved WPS, drawings and acceptance criteria
- Ensure correct identification, traceability and marking of materials and components
Supplier Quality Control
- Attend supplier facilities to witness key inspection and test stages (hold/witness points) or engage third parties to perform this activity on behalf of the company and identify quality issues early and prevent non-conforming product release, challenge poor practices, and drive corrective actions where required.
- Review and verify supplier QITPs to ensure appropriate inspection stages are defined and risks are identified and controlled, providing feedback on supplier performance to support supplier evaluation, continuous improvement, and future procurement decisions.
Documentation & Compliance
- Review Manufacturer Record Books (MRBs) for accuracy and completeness, traceability of materials and alignment with specifications and drawings.
- Verify certification including material certificates (EN 10204), NDT reports and welding qualifications (WPS, PQR, WPQ).
- Raise and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), ensuring clear definition of the issue, root cause understanding (where possible) and appropriate disposition (use as is, repair, reject).
Calibration & Equipment Control
- Maintain and manage the calibration register for all inhouse inspection and measuring equipment and ensure all equipment is fit for purpose, within calibration and used correctly.
Continuous Improvement & Process Development
- Identify recurring quality issues and trends across suppliers, product types, and internal processes
- Provide practical recommendations to improve inspection processes, supplier quality control, internal handling and verification processes
- Feedback improvement opportunities directly to the QHSE Manager and project teams
Technical Oversight - Welding & Fabrication
- Verify approved WPS/PQR are in place and used correctly, Welder qualifications are valid and appropriate
- Verify fit-up, preparation and welding parameters meet requirements
- Conduct surveillance of fabrication activities where required
- Provide guidance on welding standards and acceptance criteria
Required
- CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector (or equivalent recognised certification)
- Proven experience in QC inspection within Machining, Fabrication with Oil & Gas, Energy sector
- Strong ability to read and interpret: Engineering drawings, Tolerances and GD&T and Material specifications
- Hands-on experience using inspection and measuring equipment (e.g. calipers, micrometers, gauges)
- Experience inspecting supplier-manufactured components
- Full UK driving licence
- Level 3 or above qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- Experience with Pressure-containing equipment, Lifting equipment, Subsea or decommissioning tools
- Familiarity with API, ASME and ISO standards, EN 10204 material certification and Coating and preservation inspections
