Proposals Engineer

Role Description

The Proposals Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Westhill, Aberdeenshire.

This role is responsible for the following:

Proposal Development

• Review RFQs, ITTs, and client documentation in detail.
• Develop tailored technical and commercial proposals aligned with client requirements.
• Prepare complete quotations including scope, assumptions, exclusions, and pricing.
• Coordinate inputs from engineering, operations, and suppliers to compile submissions.
• Ensure proposals are delivered in line with company processes and approval requirements.
• Work with Commercial team to develop standard content and templates for Claxton quotations.

Technical & Commercial Input

• Interpret technical requirements and contribute to developing fit-for-purpose solutions.
• Develop independently as well as liaising with Technical Solutions / Engineering teams to define methodology, tooling, and approach.
• Support the preparation of cost models and pricing strategies using standard templates.
• Ensure alignment between technical scope and commercial submission.

Risk & Opportunity Management

• Review client SOW, contracts, and T&Cs to identify commercial and technical risks.
• Support the development of mitigation strategies to protect margin and reduce exposure.
• Present risks, assumptions, and opportunities during internal bid reviews.
• Ensure appropriate contingencies are included in pricing where required.

Stakeholder & Client Interface

• Interface with internal stakeholders (Sales, Projects, Engineering, Procurement) to develop proposals.
• Liaise with clients to clarify requirements and submit professional tender queries.
• Support and participate in client discussions and commercial negotiations where required.
• Build and maintain effective working relationships across internal and external interfaces.
• As required act as the main point of contact for certain client accounts

Planning & Coordination

• Manage multiple proposals concurrently, meeting deadlines and delivery priorities.
• Self-prioritize workload based on business needs and bid schedules.
• Track proposal progress and ensure timely submission of all deliverables.
• Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, and aligned with company standards.

Process Improvement & Knowledge Sharing

• Contribute to continuous improvement of proposal templates, tools, and processes.
• Support the development of standard content, case studies, and technical write-ups.
• Ensure lessons learned are captured and fed back into future bids.
• Maintain and improve data quality within tendering systems (e.g. GABE, NAV, CTX).

Role Requirements

• Candidates should have significant knowledge and experience within the upstream oilfield sector preferably within a business that is focused on drilling, pile hammering, decommissioning, well services or subsea services.
• Sufficient technical knowledge with an understanding of the mechanical engineering industry and the oil and gas industry / segments that Claxton sells into.
• Knowledge, experience and understanding of estimating and pricing strategies.
• A minimum of 3 years successful sales, proposals or commercial experience.
• Similar time spent in an engineering or project management role.
• Experienced user of Microsoft Office packages.
• Demonstrate ability to use systems such as CRM, NAV and Power-Bi to align with process requirements.
