Head of Engineering and Technology

Claxton is looking to source a Head of Engineering and Technology on a full-time, permanent basis. The Head of Engineering and Technology will lead the engineering functions across the organisation, aligning with the business strategy to ensure the delivery of innovative, high-quality technical solutions that support business growth and customer satisfaction. This role is pivotal in defining engineering standards, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of technical leadership and collaboration. The Head of Engineering and Technology will oversee global engineering teams, product development, and technical support, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives and operational needs. This role also supports site expansion and capability development, contributing to the broader business strategy.

Duties & Main Responsibilities

• Leadership and Strategy: Actively participate in leadership team meetings as required, contributing to the strategy development and execution.
• Identify and justify business growth opportunities, in collaboration with regional teams.
• Maintain and review a technology roadmap aligned with business growth
• Operate within the segment Delegation of Authority (DOA) matrix.
• Demonstrate proactive engagement with customers on technology and engineering requirements and trends
• Represent the business at industry events, including creating and delivering presentations.
• Ensure that an appropriately resourced global team works to standardised processes, procedures, and systems
• Maintain engineering competence documentation and ensure compliance.
• Review, monitor and improve engineering performance metrics
• Manage the Intellectual Property portfolio and commercialisation of new products.
• Oversee risk management in engineering and development activities.
• Prepare business cases for product development and R&D initiatives.
• Ensure commercially competent, cost-effective engineering teams support tenders, projects, and development.
• Promote continuous improvement and lessons learned.

Capability development

• Line manage direct reports, including performance reviews, goal setting, and development planning.
• Ensure team members understand roles and responsibilities
• Promote Claxton and Acteon values.
• Embed equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles across the function.
• Work to promote the business within academic institutions, supporting development of future generations through internships and placements.
• Secure and manage external funding for technology development.
• Support the development and maintenance of risk registers, technical documentation, and training materials.
• Ensure completion of performance reviews, talent plans, and training plans.
• Address underperformance or behavioural issues promptly and constructively

HSE and Quality assurance

• Demonstrate visible leadership in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) matters.
• Promote a proactive and positive safety culture.
• Ensure compliance with QHSE Integrated Management System and company policies.
• Ensure all tasks are executed in accordance with organisational procedures.
• Ensure that product design activities include strong focus and review of operational safety

Required qualifications

• Degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related field.
• Extensive experience in Engineering management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Knowledge of offshore surface and subsea engineering
• Proven track record of successfully managing Engineering in a global, multi-site environment.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage and inspire employees at all levels.
