Do you believe every child deserves to feel understood? Are you calm, patient, and naturally nurturing? Would you thrive in a child-led environment where relationships come first? Classroom Recruiters are looking for a patient, compassionate SEN Specialist / Mentor to support a young person within a specialist education hub in Long Eaton. This role is different from mainstream education. It is completely child-led, relationship-based, and focused on helping one young person feel understood, safe, and capable of succeeding. Many young people in specialist provision have faced significant challenges in education. They may have experienced exclusion, misunderstanding, or environments that simply weren’t designed with their needs in mind. This role is about changing that experience. We are looking for someone who can build trust, provide consistency, and adapt to the young person in front of them each day.

The Role

You will work closely with one young person, supporting them through their day within a calm, nurturing learning environment. Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting the child at 9:00am and transporting them to the hub
  • Supporting them throughout the day in a safe and structured environment
  • Building a consistent and trusted relationship
  • Delivering child-led learning and activities
  • Supporting emotional regulation and confidence
  • Dropping the child home at 3:00pm

Every day is different. Some days learning flows naturally. Other days the focus may simply be helping the young person feel safe enough to engage. The right person understands that real progress begins with trust.

What We’re Looking For

  • Calm, patient, and emotionally intelligent
  • Naturally nurturing in their approach
  • Able to build strong, trusting relationships with young people
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a child-led environment
  • Passionate about supporting young people with additional needs
