1:1 Teaching Assistant Needed for a School in Matlock area (Perm Contract) (10 week probation through Classroom Recruiters). Classroom Recruiters is proud to partner with a reputable school in the Matlock area in their search for dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistants. If you have experience supporting children or young people in an education setting and a real passion for helping pupils succeed, we want to hear from you.
You will work at one school and be assigned a child to work with for the rest of the academic year. After successful completion of a 10-week trial period, you will start your permanent contract and have a 6 month statutory probation period. This is a great opportunity to work in a school that has fantastic facilities for the children and really is welcoming to new staff.
Hours: 8:15 - 4:15 pm
Days a week: Ideally full-time, but we do have part-time available, a minimum of 3 days a week.
Key Skills and Duties:
- 1:1 Support: You will work closely with a named pupil on a 1:1 basis, providing consistent, tailored support to help them access learning, stay engaged, and make progress across the school day.
- Learning Support: You will assist the class teacher in adapting tasks and resources, offering practical guidance and encouragement to help the pupil build confidence and independence.
- Support with Additional Needs: Many 1:1 roles involve supporting pupils with SEND, including communication needs, attention and concentration, or emotional regulation. Experience with a range of needs is highly valued.
- Behaviour and Wellbeing Support: You will help the pupil manage routines, transitions and expectations, using positive strategies to support behaviour, emotional wellbeing and social interaction.
- Collaborative Approach: You will work closely with teachers, the SENCO, and pastoral teams, contributing to support plans and maintaining consistent approaches in and out of the classroom.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication is essential for sharing updates with staff, liaising with parents where appropriate, and working alongside external professionals to ensure the pupil receives joined-up support.
Who We Are Looking For:
- Experience and Qualifications: Previous experience in a school or supporting children or young people is essential. Experience in a 1:1 role is desirable but not mandatory. Relevant qualifications (Teaching Assistant, CACHE, Childcare, Education, Psychology) are beneficial but not required.
- Empathy and Patience: The ability to build trust, remain calm, and support the pupil through challenges with understanding and consistency.
- Adaptability: You will tailor your approach to the pupil’s needs, responding flexibly to different situations throughout the school day.
- Positive Attitude: A nurturing and encouraging manner that helps the pupil feel safe, motivated and capable.
Importance of Building Strong Relationships: A successful 1:1 support role is built on trust and consistency. You will be a key person for the pupil, helping them feel secure and understood while encouraging independence and progress. Your ability to develop a strong, supportive relationship will play a vital role in their learning, confidence and wellbeing.
