Do you believe every child deserves an education that works for them? Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to achieve their potential, regardless of the barriers they face? Can you build meaningful relationships, adapt your teaching to meet individual needs and help learners rediscover their confidence? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

We are looking for compassionate, dedicated and adaptable 1:1 SEND Tutors to support children and young people with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Special Educational Needs (SEN), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), sensory needs, anxiety, emotionally based school avoidance (EBSA) and other additional learning needs. The young people we support are often unable to access mainstream education due to their individual needs, medical conditions, previous experiences or barriers to learning. Many have been out of education for weeks, months or even years and require highly personalised, relationship-led support to help them re-engage with learning.

Working on a 1:1 basis, you will deliver tailored educational sessions that meet each learner where they are academically, emotionally and socially. Sessions may take place in the learner's home, within community settings or other approved learning environments, with every programme carefully designed around the child's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), learning goals and individual interests wherever appropriate. This is far more than delivering lessons. It is about creating an environment where children feel safe, understood and able to succeed.

The Role

As a 1:1 SEND Tutor, you will plan and deliver engaging lessons that are fully adapted to each learner's individual strengths, needs and learning style. You will use creative teaching strategies to build confidence, encourage curiosity and make learning enjoyable, recognising that progress looks different for every child. You'll work closely with parents, carers, schools, local authorities and other professionals to provide consistent, child-centred support. Alongside academic development, you'll help learners develop confidence, communication, emotional regulation, independence and essential life skills.

Many of the children you support will require flexibility, patience and creativity. Some may need frequent movement breaks, sensory-friendly learning approaches or practical activities, while others may benefit from visual resources, structured routines or learning through their interests. Your ability to adapt your teaching to suit each individual learner will be key to their success. Success in this role is not always measured by academic attainment alone. Sometimes success is completing a lesson, asking a question, managing anxiety, developing trust, engaging for longer than before or simply believing that learning can be enjoyable again.

Who We're Looking For

We welcome applications from qualified teachers, tutors, SEND Teachers, SEN Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs), Learning Mentors, Behaviour Mentors, Youth Workers, Alternative Provision staff and education professionals with experience supporting children with additional needs. Experience supporting learners with SEND, SEN, SEMH, Autism (ASC), ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, speech and language needs, learning disabilities, complex needs, challenging behaviour, emotional regulation difficulties, trauma, anxiety, school refusal or alternative provision is highly desirable. Most importantly, we're looking for individuals who are patient, empathetic, resilient and committed to helping every child achieve their potential through personalised support and positive relationships.

What You'll Need

You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be confident working independently and be able to differentiate learning for a wide range of abilities and additional needs. A good understanding of safeguarding, inclusive education and child-centred practice is beneficial. A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential, as travel between learners forms part of the role. Business insurance will be required before starting.

Why Join Us?

This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity to make a lasting difference to the lives of children and young people with SEND. Every learner is different, every day brings new challenges and every success, no matter how small, has the potential to transform a child's future. You'll have the opportunity to deliver truly personalised education, build meaningful relationships and help learners develop academically, socially and emotionally while giving them the confidence to believe in themselves again. This is a long-term, term-time only position that runs throughout the full academic year, providing consistency for both tutors and the young people they support. We believe strong relationships take time to build, which is why we focus on creating stable, ongoing placements rather than short-term assignments. You'll have the opportunity to make a lasting impact by supporting the same learner over an extended period, helping them develop academically, emotionally and socially while building trust and confidence. The role follows the school calendar, meaning you will work during term time with school holidays off. If you're passionate about inclusive education, committed to supporting children with SEND and want a role where your impact is visible every day, we'd love to hear from you.
