Classroom Assistant – SEND Support
Location: Long Eaton (Learning Hub)
Contract: Full Time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00-15:00 (may have to start later 9:30 or finish earlier 2:30 depending on children's rota)
Start Date: ASAP
Pay: Up to £22.50 per hour
Are you passionate about supporting children with additional needs? This full‑time role enables you to build strong, positive relationships with children in a local learning hub, support tutors, and help students thrive.
You’ll work in a small group setting alongside skilled tutors who tailor learning to each child’s needs. The learning hub provides an inclusive atmosphere, allowing you to adapt effectively and make a real impact. This role may continue into the next academic year.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist 1:1 with children who have SEND, including high‑functioning autism, social communication difficulties, and complex needs.
- Support tutors with teaching and classroom activities.
- Engage and build positive relationships with all children.
- Help set up and clear down the learning hub daily.
- Contribute to an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Support children aged 4–16 in accessing learning and activities.
- Assist tutors out in the community on a 2:1 basis when requested.
The Ideal Candidate
- Genuine passion for transforming the lives of children with additional needs.
- Comfortable with personal care.
- Previous experience with children is advantageous, but not essential.
- Familiarity with SEND strategies and interventions is a plus.
- Commitment to building strong relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Driving is preferred but not essential.
Qualifications & Skills
- Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent preferred; a range of other qualifications is welcomed.
- Ability to make learning accessible to children with varying abilities.
- Basic computer skills and understanding of educational software are useful.
