Position Description

We seek an Upper School Theater Teacher who will direct and produce two theater performances per year. In the belief that the performing arts are an integral part of a classical education, we require all students to take Theater as a one-semester, thrice weekly class during their junior and senior years, culminating in the performance of a classical (typically Shakespearean) or modern drama. The Theater Teacher will be responsible for guiding these productions from start to finish: coaching students in acting, character analysis, body movement, and all aspects of both directing and producing a play: costumes, props, set, music, etc. (these vary from show to show). In the classroom, this teacher will model a love of words, of story, and of learning in community. Experience teaching, directing, and/or performing Shakespeare is essential. Candidates able to teach Middle or Upper School humanities, in addition to theater, are encouraged to apply.

At The Wilberforce School, our understanding of God as Creator and of His saving purposes in Jesus Christ undergirds all of our teaching and conduct. In providing a truly Christian education in NJ, we seek to nurture students who have a genuine love of learning, who are equipped to live as vibrant Christians, and who can articulate and defend the Christian message with clarity, creativity, and conviction.
