Class Mate is working in partnership with a well-run, welcoming primary school in the DE21 area to recruit an experienced Deputy Headteacher for a mixed teaching and leadership role. This is a genuinely balanced opportunity for a strong leader who enjoys staying connected to the classroom while taking on meaningful whole-school responsibility.

The Role

  • 4 days per week teaching Year 2
  • 1 day per week (Thurs) Deputy Headteacher (non-teaching)

On your designated Deputy Head day, you will be left in charge of the school while the Headteacher is off-site. This includes overseeing the day-to-day running of the school and supporting staff as needed.

The school benefits from:

  • A settled, supportive staff team
  • Low-level behaviour and positive pupil attitudes
  • Clear systems already in place

Key Responsibilities

Teaching (Year 2 4 days):

  • Deliver engaging, high-quality lessons
  • Maintain strong routines and expectations
  • Work collaboratively within the KS1 team

Leadership (1 day):

  • Act as Headteacher in the Head's absence
  • Lead and host staff meetings
  • Support teaching and support staff across the school
  • Ensure smooth daily operations and safeguarding oversight
  • Communicate confidently with staff, parents (if required), and the office team

Who We're Looking For

  • An experienced Deputy Headteacher, or a senior leader ready for this level of responsibility
  • Strong KS1 teaching experience (Year 2 preferred)
  • Calm, organised, and confident leading a school day independently
  • Professional, approachable, and respected by staff
  • Someone who values consistency, relationships, and staff wellbeing

Why Work with Class Mate?

At Class Mate, we work differently. We focus on fit, longevity, and honesty, not quick placements. You'll have:

  • Clear communication throughout

  • Ongoing support during the placement

This role also offers a real opportunity to become permanent for the right candidate.
