Class Education are currently recruiting for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school on a temporary-to-permanent basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for a caring, resilient and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people who may face challenges with their social, emotional and mental health.

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff to provide tailored support to pupils, helping them to engage with their education, develop confidence and build positive relationships.

The Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils across the school.
  • Support pupils with their learning, emotional wellbeing and personal development.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and act as a consistent and supportive role model.
  • Assist teachers in creating a calm, safe and engaging learning environment.
  • Support pupils who may display challenging behaviour, using positive and appropriate strategies.
  • Help pupils develop their confidence, independence and social skills.
  • Work as part of a supportive and experienced team.
  • Follow individual support plans and contribute to pupils' wider development.

About You

We are looking for someone who is

  • Patient, calm and resilient, with a positive approach.
  • Passionate about helping children and young people overcome barriers to learning.
  • Confident in building strong and positive relationships.
  • Able to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging situations.
  • A good communicator who works well as part of a team.
  • Caring, empathetic and able to see the individual behind the behaviour.
  • Keen to learn and develop their experience within a specialist educational setting.

Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, SEND or additional needs would be highly beneficial.

However, we are also keen to hear from candidates with transferable experience from youth work, care, support work, sports coaching or similar backgrounds.
