The Patient Safety Team at Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust are seeking to recruit a Patient Safety Officer. You will need demonstrable experience of working in an NHS environment in either a clinical or non‑clinical role, and will have excellent communication skills with the ability to produce written reports to a high standard. As part of the role you will be expected to communicate sensitive information with patients and their families during times of distress, engage with clinical staff from a wide range of professional backgrounds, and apply appropriate professional curiosity. This is an exciting time to join the Patient Safety Team as we begin to embed the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) across the Trust. Whilst this is a busy and demanding role, there is great opportunity for learning and development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and professional advice on incident investigation and patient safety in line with PSIRF.
  • Enable corporate compliance with national requirements set by the Commissioners, Care Quality Commission and other regulators.
  • Produce complex reports and communicate findings to senior staff.
  • Assist clinical staff in multi‑professional working and in presenting information to divisional/executive level.
  • Support the development and implementation of systems of work to monitor and measure patient safety.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Degree level education or equivalent experience in healthcare.
  • Previous experience of working in a clinical or non‑clinical role within a relevant NHS environment.
  • Experience of multi‑professional working within a healthcare setting.
  • Experience in preparing and writing complex reports.
  • Evidence of communication with patients, families and service users regarding sensitive and distressing information.
  • Able to interpret complex information and present it to divisional/executive level.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership and problem‑solving skills in complex and difficult situations.
  • Developed analytical skills with the ability to assess, interpret, act and report upon complex information from a variety of sources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Keyboard and competent IT skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate level qualification or equivalent work experience in healthcare.
  • Masters level education.
  • Demonstrable experience in reporting and management of incidents, including incident investigation in a healthcare setting.
  • Experience of developing and implementing systems of work to monitor and measure patient safety.
  • Previous experience of working with patient safety or in a risk environment/role.
  • Experience of PSRIF or PSIRF / HSIB training in patient safety.
  • Working knowledge of patient safety within healthcare.
