We are working with a small, highly regarded independent school in Balham to recruit a talented and committed Year 5 Teacher for a September 2026 start. This is a one-year position, with the option of a permanent contract for the right candidate. This is a unique opportunity to teach a very small class of just 7 pupils, including one child with an EHCP supported by a dedicated 1:1. The school has a strong academic focus, and parents hold high expectations for pupil progress and attainment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons for a Year 5 class
  • Prepare pupils for 11+ and Year 7 entrance exams

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching in Upper Key Stage 2
  • Strong understanding of 11+ / selective entrance exam preparation
  • Interest or strength in Computing and/or English
  • Ability to maintain high academic standards and expectations
  • A proactive and flexible approach within a small school setting

School Details:

  • Independent school with small class sizes (Year 5 currently 7 pupils)
  • Located on Balham High Road
  • Working hours: 8:00am–5:00pm or 8:30am–5:30pm (no expectation to work outside these hours)
  • Generous PPA time provided across the week through specialist teaching support
  • 12 weeks holiday (aligned with state school terms)
  • Outer London Main Scale salary (not suitable for UPS teachers)
