A supportive and inclusive mainstream primary school in Camden is seeking a committed SEMH Teaching Assistant to join their specialist SEMH class. This provision supports pupils across EYFS to KS2, offering structured, nurturing interventions to help children regulate emotions, develop positive behaviours, and re-engage with learning.
You will work 1:1 or 1:2 with pupils, alongside the SEN Class Teacher and wider SEMH team, supporting children with complex social, emotional and mental health needs.
The Role:
- Supporting pupils across the primary age range within the school's specialist SEMH class
- Working 1:1 or 1:2 with children with complex SEMH needs
- Implementing trauma-informed approaches and behaviour support strategies
- Supporting emotional regulation, communication and engagement in learning
- Setting clear, consistent and positive boundaries
- Managing challenging behaviour with empathy and professionalism
- Working closely with the SEN Class Teacher and multidisciplinary team
- Creating a calm, safe and nurturing learning environment
What We're Looking For - SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Experience supporting children with SEMH needs
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and attachment
- Calm, patient and resilient personality
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour confidently and consistently
- Excellent de-escalation and relationship-building skills
- Experience working 1:1 or in small groups
- Relevant qualifications or strong academic background
- Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
