About this Role

We are seeking an outstanding individual to join one of our teaching departments to support students across KS1 and KS2. Successful candidates will also become members of our inclusion team.

Excellent organisational skills, proficiency in the use of IT and a good understanding of how to enable students with special educational needs to access the curriculum are essential.

You should be committed to inclusion and the well-being of every child and be an outstanding role model in your own practice.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide targeted support for the named pupil following advice and guidance of external professionals and the AHT/ SENCO and Deputy SENCO
  • Provide in class 1:1 support to the named pupil, personalising teaching resources to enable them to engage with the learning
  • Under the supervision of the AHT/ SENCO and Deputy SENCO and with appropriate training, assist in the development of and deliver intervention programmes to meet the identified pupil’s needs. These may include speech and language carry over sessions; social skills sessions; sessions to develop literacy and numeracy skills and life skills sessions.
  • Assist the AHT/ SENCO and Deputy SENCO in addressing and meeting the daily physical safety of the pupil, contributing to safety plans and ensuring the safe movement around school and within different classroom environments
  • Assist the pupil with adaptive/ assistive technology
  • Establish a constructive relationship with the pupil and interact with them according to their individual needs.
  • Liaise with the pupil’s parents/ carers where appropriate to highlight areas of concerns and celebrate achievement
  • Liaise with the Inclusion Team, subject teachers, departments and pastoral teams regarding progress made, problems arising, and any difficulties with accessing work and/ or resources

Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Evidence of professional development

Skills and Experience:

  • Have successful experience in working with a range of students with Special Educational Needs/EAL
  • Good interpersonal skills, a high level of initiative, energy and enthusiasm
  • Be able to communicate clearly and accurately both on paper and orally and to have a good command of English
  • Be able to show initiative and know when to ask for guidance
  • The ability to follow instructions in order for students to meet the tasks required
  • Be well organised, able to prioritise and good at starting and completing tasks
  • The ability to work as a member of a team and to have sensitivity and tact in dealing with a wide range of young adults and people
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure, maintain complete confidentiality and discretion at all times
  • Have good word processing skills and the ability to use Word and Excel
  • Have knowledge of risk assessment procedures and/or be willing to be trained in this area
