We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Head of Religious Studies to join our thriving school community. You will lead a supportive department delivering Religious Studies across Key Stages 3 to 5.

About the Role:

  1. Lead and develop our established Religious Studies curriculum from Year 7 through to KS5, including GCSE and our statutory commitments KS3 to KS5.
  2. Guide a dedicated team of Religious Studies colleagues through line management and professional development.
  3. Oversee assessment, monitoring and intervention strategies across the department.
  4. Drive engagement through extra-curricular activities.

What we are looking for:

  1. Proven track record of excellent classroom practice.
  2. Strong subject knowledge across Religious Studies.
  3. Experience of raising achievement at GCSE and A-Level.
  4. Ability to inspire and support colleagues.
  5. Commitment to inclusive education.

Key tasks:

  1. To ensure there is effective teaching and learning in the Religious Studies department.
  2. To ensure the effective delivery of the Religious Studies curriculum across KS3, KS4 (including GCSE) and KS5, meeting our statutory obligations.
  3. To ensure the effective delivery of the GCSE and A Level should the course run.
  4. To be responsible for the co-ordination, organisation and administration of the Religious Studies department.
  5. To make full contribution to the life of the school.

Experience:

  1. To have experience of working effectively within a team and playing a motivating role.
  2. To have experience of teaching Religious Studies at KS3 and either KS4 or KS5.
  3. To have teaching experience in a culturally diverse secondary school.
  4. To have experience of implementing teaching interventions and evaluating their effectiveness.
  5. To have experience of taking a lead role in departmental initiatives.

Qualifications and Training:

  1. To have a degree in Religious Studies or a related subject.
  2. To be a qualified Religious Studies teacher (PGCE or equivalent) with QTS.
  3. To have a good standard of general education including GCSE Maths and English.

Knowledge / Skills:

  1. To understand the requirements of the National Curriculum for Religious Studies GCSE and A levels.
  2. To have an awareness of relevant health and safety regulations and policies.
  3. To have good ICT skills.
  4. To have excellent communication and literacy skills (both oral and in writing).
  5. The ability to prioritise own time, work under pressure and meet deadlines with a sense of balance and perspective.
