Job Description:

Head of PE

Head of Physical Education Required for School in Southwark

Full time, Permanent

January 2025

An expanding school in Southwark is looking for an inspiring Head of Physical Education for a permanent post starting in January 2024. This position would suit either an experienced Head of Department or an experienced PE Teacher looking to take on their first Head of Department role. If you’re ready for a new challenge, we’d love to hear from you.

About the role

This is a full-time, permanent role in which you will be responsible for leading a team of PE Teachers to deliver exceptional lessons to a range of ages and abilities. You will also be responsible for delivering CPD and developing the PE curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4.

The school offers all Head of Department’s CPD time on their timetable where you will receive one on one training with an external Leader who will support you in your progression path. The school caters to a cohort of vulnerable young people in East London and is looking for someone who can lead and inspire their PE department. The school has an onsite gym for staff to use, free parking, free mental health support and counselling, reduced timetable, more PPA time and collaborative planning.

The ideal candidate

  • At least 2 years of qualified experience teaching BTEC PE at KS3 and KS4
  • Experience developing schemes or work and curriculum within a PE department
  • QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) or QTLS

We are dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect all staff to share this commitment. You will have a safeguarding responsibility if appointed. The successful candidate will be subject to enhanced clearance through the Disclosure and Barring Service and employment will be subject to references. This post is not exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
