We can offer you the opportunity to work with talented, creative students, many of whom are high attaining and keen for a career in the media, alongside a full time Media technician and an exceptional Media Studies teaching team. We are looking for a talented and hard working Media Studies Teacher who can lead the department. Our Media Studies department has been led exceptionally well over the last 10 years and you will inherit a brilliantly resourced and equipped with exemplary curriculum materials and heavy investment in technology. We consistently achieve outcomes that place us in the top 5-10% of schools nationally for student progress. Many students gain places at top universities, but we are also a truly comprehensive school and support each child to achieve, whatever their ability or circumstances. Our modern facilities are superb with extensive IT facilities, large, expansive playing fields and a purpose-built block for Year 7. We also have one of the largest Post-16 Centres in London with designated study and support areas.

Main Duties:

  • To improve and develop teaching and learning within Media Studies through the collective development of resources, schemes and lesson plans of the highest standard.
  • To improve and develop teaching and learning in Media Studies through the development and training of staff who deliver the subject, such as through the use of observation, feedback and advice.
  • To monitor the delivery of the subject, the development of resources and the assessment of student progress. To take appropriate action when such monitoring identifies unsatisfactory teaching and learning or student progress.
  • To promote challenging, purposeful, enjoyable and appropriately differentiated lessons in the subject.
  • To support students to get the best grades, intervening when necessary and supporting whole school extra-curricular intervention.
  • To promote good behaviour amongst students to create a purposeful learning environment in the classroom, assisting colleagues in the curriculum area to achieve this.

As the Head of Media Studies, you will have:

  • A degree
  • UK QTS
  • PGCE
  • Experience teaching Media Studies is advantageous
  • Proven record of outstanding results.
  • Experience of curriculum development & subject leadership.
  • Experience of quality assurance and of leading and managing a team.
  • Outstanding skills as a classroom teacher and as a tutor.
  • An excellent record of developmental work in current role.
  • Some experience of managing or implementing curriculum systems and initiatives.
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement.
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school.
