Weekly Hours: 37 hours, Monday to Friday
Location: Cambridge & Huntingdon

About the Role - Assistant Head of Inclusion Department

Are you a passionate leader with expertise in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) looking for an exciting opportunity in Further Education? We are seeking an Assistant Head of Inclusion Department to join a Supported Learning leadership team.

In this pivotal role, you will work closely with the Head of Department, other Assistant Heads, Lecturers, and Technicians to coordinate both practical and theoretical activities. You will play a key role in embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout the department, ensuring students with SEND and High Needs receive a personalised, ambitious curriculum. You will champion the integration of English and Maths within vocational learning and across the Supported Learning Department.

Your responsibilities will include managing staffing and timetables to maximise support for students, driving high levels of achievement and attainment. You will be accountable for delivering personalised curricula with stretching outcomes for students with High Needs and ensuring effective use of all college learning support systems. Through mentoring and modelling best inclusive practice, you will foster a collaborative, supportive environment that enables all students to reach their full potential.

What We’re Looking For - Assistant Head of Inclusion Department

We want candidates who are confident leaders ready to make a real impact within the Supported Learning team. You should have:

  • A strong understanding of SEND and the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, professionals, and stakeholders
  • High-level pedagogical skills and experience leading inclusion practices that inspire and support others
  • Proven track record in curriculum development, particularly for SEND and high needs learners
  • Experience with internal quality assurance for accredited and non-accredited programmes
  • Familiarity with college systems such as exams, student records, and MIS, ensuring accurate student data management
  • Extensive experience working in a specialist SEND department in a college or school setting with post-16 learners
  • Excellent people management skills, including applying HR policies and promoting staff wellbeing
  • Practical experience implementing reasonable adjustments to improve access and inclusion
