About the Role - Early Years Teaching Assistant:

As an Early Years Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside teachers and senior staff to create a purposeful and stimulating learning environment for children in Nursery and Reception. You will play a vital role in supporting both individual pupils and small groups, helping them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally through creative and engaging activities. You will be working closely with students with SEN, ensuring an inclusive learning environment for all students. A strong understanding of phonics and experience delivering phonics-based activities is essential, as is experience in conducting observations and contributing to developmental assessments within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Key Responsibilities - Early Years Teaching Assistant:

  • Support children’s learning and development across Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
  • Assist in planning and delivering engaging and interactive activities
  • Help set up indoor and outdoor learning environments to encourage exploration and creativity
  • Monitor and assess children's progress, reporting to teachers and senior staff
  • Conduct observations and contribute to the assessment and tracking of children’s developmental milestones
  • Deliver structured phonics sessions and support early reading development
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and carers to ensure each child reaches their potential
  • Provide individual support for children with additional needs, promoting inclusion and accessibility
  • Foster a love of learning through play-based and hands-on experiences

What We’re Looking For - Early Years Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children, specifically EYFS
  • A strong understanding of Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) principles
  • Experience with phonics programmes (e.g., Read Write Inc, Jolly Phonics, or Letters and Sounds)
  • Proven experience conducting observations and contributing to EYFS assessments
  • Experience working with children with SEN would be desirable
  • Strong academic background
  • A patient, creative, and nurturing approach
  • Knowledge of strategies to engage children, support learning, and manage behaviour positively
  • Relevant qualifications in childcare or education would be an advantage, but we are keen to hear from individuals with a strong passion for Early Years education and a commitment to helping children flourish
