Offering a complete ecosystem of maritime services, including broking, finance, port services, and research, Clarksons is at the heart of global shipping. Our unrivalled reach, expertise, and depth of experience, combined with leading research, enables us to partner with clients across every sector to meet the demands of the world’s rapidly evolving maritime, offshore, trade, and energy markets.
Building on our unique heritage and harnessing our insights to see further, faster, we work with our clients and communities to create strategies that have a positive impact on industry and the world around us. It’s a chance to build on strong SQL Server experience and grow into a broader data platform engineering role. You’ll still work closely with databases day to day, but you’ll also get involved in automation, cloud platform work, and data pipelines, helping shape how the organisation modernises its data platform over time. It’s a good fit for someone who wants to move beyond “keeping the lights on” and into building and improving systems at scale. There’s a clear path here to grow into more data and platform engineering ownership, not just database administration.
We’re looking for an experienced SQL Server and Data Platform Engineer with strong SQL Server experience to join a high-performing team managing a hybrid data platform including SQL Server (2017–2025), Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI.
- Manage and support SQL Server environments (including Always On, upgrades, performance tuning, HA/DR)
- Improve how data moves through the platform using Azure Data Factory and related tools
- Build automation and CI/CD for database and platform changes using PowerShell, Terraform, and Azure DevOps
- Improve monitoring, reliability, and operational efficiency across the data platform
- Support cloud adoption and modernisation of data infrastructure
- Work closely with engineers and analysts to make data more reliable and easier to use
Strong SQL Server experience in production environments. Good understanding of performance tuning, indexing, and high availability. Some exposure to Azure SQL or cloud data platforms. Curiosity about data engineering and platform engineering (growth mindset is important here).
Benefits:
- Life Assurance – Providing peace of mind and financial support for your loved ones.
- Pension Scheme – A contributory pension plan to help you plan for the future.
- Annual Leave – Generous holiday allowance, with the opportunity to purchase additional days.
- Hybrid Working – Flexible arrangements: 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.
- Training & Development – Access to ongoing professional development, certifications, and learning resources.
