The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is seeking one Postdoctoral Researcher. This position will be part of several projects involving the use of non-thermal plasma to treat PFAS contaminated water. The successful candidate is expected to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with other members of the group, as well as effectively interface with external partners. The position is for one year with continuation possible pending funding. It is available immediately.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, evaluate and improve non-thermal plasma treatment methods to remove PFAS from water.
  • Oversee several projects involving the use of non-thermal plasma to treat PFAS contaminated water.
  • Evaluate and analyze analytical and experimental data.
  • Draft sponsor required reports on research and contracted goals.
  • Present results in meetings and conferences.
  • Draft manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.
  • Assist PIs to mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the research lab.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Minimal Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related fields.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Chemical or Environmental Engineering or related fields. Strong publication record.

Experience:

  • Minimal Experience: i) Three years' experience using non-thermal plasma to treat PFAS containing water; ii) Demonstrated experience overseeing research projects, and iii) Demonstrated experience preparing manuscripts and assisting with sponsor required reports.

Essential Skills:

  • Familiar with the operation of non-thermal plasma reactors.
  • Familiar with the operation of non-thermal plasma power supplies.
  • Familiar with PFAS treatment methods for water.
  • Ability to initiate tasks and work independently.
  • Ability to engage in collaborative teamwork.
  • Ability to safely handle high voltages, chemicals and flammable compressed gases.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal); Strong writing and editorial skills: ability to independently handle the preparation of sponsor reports and research manuscripts.
