Manage compliance, audit and research activities for indirect taxes (e.g., VAT, GST, sales & use tax) across multiple jurisdictions, with a particular focus on retail and wholesale operations, POS systems, and e-commerce tax determination.
Responsibilities
- Manage multi-jurisdictional indirect tax compliance, research and plan for sales tax topics to minimise non-compliance, over/under payment and avoid financial penalties and inspections.
- Ensure appropriate indirect tax rates, rules and product taxability maintained and reflected in tax compliance software and ERP/POS/e-commerce systems.
- Manage indirect tax and personal property tax audits to minimise risk and reduce proposed assessment.
- Lead interactions with tax authorities and external tax advisors globally, ensuring consistent and defensible positions.
- Oversee other indirect tax obligations relevant to the jurisdictions in which the business operates, filing of personal property tax returns to ensure the business is meeting its tax obligations accurately and on time.
- Implement satisfactory controls and maintain indirect tax engines, SAP tax configuration, POS/e-commerce tax logic to ensure effective processes and data integrity.
- Ensure tax determination accuracy for high-volume retail transactions across POS and online channels.
- Optimise tax efficiency and identify possible tax savings.
- Understand and address global indirect tax legislative changes to ensure continued tax compliance and early identification of opportunities to minimise tax costs.
- Provide indirect tax guidance on supply chain flows, cross-border transactions, new market entry and product launches.
- Manage projects related to indirect tax issues across retail, wholesale, POS, ERP and e-commerce platforms to ensure tax implications are understood and built into any solutions.
- Recommend and implement changes to tax systems, formal procedures, processes, and administration of tax services to drive improvement and global standardisation to current and future ways of working in line with agreed outcomes.
Qualifications
- Tax / accounting qualification and significant experience in a corporate organisation.
- Strong experience in indirect tax within a multinational environment; retail sector experience preferred.
- Good research skills across global indirect tax technical issues.
- Good management and financial accounting knowledge.
- Good understanding of multinational business operations, supply chain flows, and retail processes to ensure tax opportunities are maximised and tax costs minimised.
- Strong accounting and SAP business system knowledge.
- Excellent report writing, correspondence and negotiation skills.
- Experience of direct dealing and negotiation with tax authorities across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience of working autonomously on multiple projects and to deadlines.
- Strong analytical and economic analysis skills for data interpretation.
- Strong influencing and relationship building skills.
