Overview
About The Role Due to growth, we are looking for an Associate or Senior Associate to join our Commercial Litigation team in Birmingham. Our combined Bristol and Birmingham Commercial Litigation team is led by Partners who work alongside a Senior Associate, two Associates, three Solicitors, a trainee and a paralegal. We are consistently ranked highly in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, with considerable experience in resolving disputes across a wide range of industries and sectors. You will work with the entire team and, in particular, closely with the Birmingham leadership to grow our litigation presence there. This is an opportunity for the right person to become a core member of a growing team.
Day to day, you will be successful in this role by contributing to a wide variety of dispute resolution work, handling claims including contract disputes, professional negligence, banking, intellectual property, defamation, fraud, procurement, partnership and shareholder disputes for a wide variety of commercial and corporate clients. You will have your own caseload across the range of our specialisms and the opportunity to support Partners and Associates on more complex and large-scale claims. You will also participate in business development activities and be an active member of a supportive team. It is an integral part of this role that you comply with information security and all firm policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Manage a wide variety of dispute resolution work across commercial litigation areas.
- Handle claims including contract disputes, professional negligence, banking, intellectual property, defamation, fraud, procurement, partnership and shareholder disputes for a broad client base.
- Develop and manage your own caseload while supporting partners and colleagues on more complex matters.
- Engage in business development activities and contribute as a member of a collaborative team.
- Ensure compliance with information security and firm policies and procedures.
Qualifications / What we\βre looking for
- Between 4-8 years qualified experience within Commercial Litigation, with openness to applicants from outside this range if they present a particularly strong CV.
- Proactive and flexible in working both independently and as part of a team; able to prioritise multiple projects effectively; strong commercial litigation experience.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality client service. Able to use initiative and be a forward-planner, anticipating client needs in advance where possible.
- Very good academic achievement and a desire to develop a career as a litigator; shows initiative, pragmatism, common sense and excellent client skills; aims to build a career and reputation within a strong, friendly, and supportive team.
- Driven and ambitious with the ability to develop existing experience within a highly regarded team.
