Our growing Court of Protection team has an opportunity for a Case Manager to join its Bristol practice. Our experienced and approachable team work with families, professional advisers and local authorities across the country. You will have the opportunity to work with our experts, providing practical advice and assistance on behalf of people who cannot manage their own finances, for reasons such as mental incapacity, mental illness or following a severe personal injury.

Role: Case Manager – Court of Protection
Location: Bristol
Hours: Full Time
Term: Permanent

Day to day, you’ll be successful in this role by:

  • You will be responsible (under supervision) for managing the financial affairs of vulnerable people, in particular, those with limited mental capacity.
  • Regular duties will include but are not limited to:
  • Being the main point of contact for clients / third parties.
  • Complete monthly cabinet check exercise.
  • Raising CW bills as appropriate.
  • Reviewing care funding position and completing financial assessments, making funding applications as/when required.
  • Managing funding where applicable including direct payments.
  • Completion of necessary checklists and reviews (Initial Appointment, New Admin Year, Monthly, Property sale / purchase, Moving home, Deceased).
  • Complete annual Benefit Reviews making new claims as/when required. Updating DWP of relevant changes as appropriate.
  • Arranging necessary Insurance Obtaining Quotes.
  • Checking OPG reports and referring as required.
  • Dealing with Post Managing emails received via COP email inbox.
  • Finalising annual visit checklist and undertaking the annual deputy visit (where appropriate).
  • Arranging and preparing for annual IFA meetings.
  • Managing employment of carers including monthly payroll arrangements.
  • Managing receipt of Periodical payments including evidencing proof of life.
  • Authorising payments on HSBC.net.
  • Deputy Accounts / Reconciliation.
  • Draft Best Interest Decisions (for deputy approval).

It is an integral part of this role that you comply with information security and all firm policies and procedures.

  • You are required to have good numeracy skills to help with the financial management and record keeping, and a competent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • You will understand the importance of financial budgeting and sustainability and your role in managing client budgets.
  • You are expected to be aware of relevant rules and regulations including but not limited to: OPG professional deputyship standards, Mental Capacity Act 2010, Court of Protection Rules and associated practice directions.
