We are recruiting a BD Executive or Senior Executive to join our Business Development and Marketing Team on a 12 months Fixed Term Contract. Joining a proactive, supportive and talented team of Business Development & Marketing professionals, this is an exciting opportunity providing business development support to our legal teams and sectors. This role can be based in either our high-profile Bristol or Taunton office.

Clarke Willmott offers expert advice and support on a broad range of legal services and works with an extensive client base of large corporate clients, lenders, public bodies, private businesses, sole traders, high net worth individuals and charitable organisations with focus on the most involved and complex matters. Our business development team is structured to align with the firm’s legal teams and sectors, with each member of our BD team working closely with a small number of teams and/or sectors. This position is based in our Bristol office but can be performed on a hybrid basis.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Supporting the firm’s growth strategy
  • Proactively driving forward team and/or sector strategy for sustainable growth
  • Identifying market trends, competitor activities and potential opportunities for growth
  • Managing the delivery of team/sector plans
  • Supporting the Bristol office with their day-to-day BD activities

Client Focus

  • Understanding your teams/sector client base and pipeline
  • Helping fee earners to develop existing client relationships and identify cross selling opportunities
  • Helping fee earners to identify and pursue potential target clients
  • Helping fee earners to identify and develop relationships with key referrers
  • Understanding the challenges the clients face in the teams and sectors that you look after and helping fee earners with spotting opportunities for growth

Marketing and Promotion

  • Collaborating with the marketing team to create and execute marketing campaigns relevant to your teams/sectors
  • Developing marketing materials, including brochures, team sheets, presentations and assisting with digital content
  • Working with the press team to spot opportunities to promote your teams/sectors
  • Working with the external comms team on how to best support fee earner created content on the right channels
  • L500 and Chambers annual submission- supporting fee earning teams and sectors with their submissions

Pitches and Tenders

  • Working with the pitch and tenders’ team to assist with specific subject matter content
  • Once a pitch or tender is won, where relevant, taking the lead with the client partner in terms of starting off that client relationship on the right foot, introducing the team and getting the instructions through

Events and Webinars

  • Organising internal and external business development CW related events
  • Organising team/sector specific webinars from conception through to supporting the fee earners behind the scenes when they present live
  • Researching, scoping and costing relevant external events for the fee earners to attend
  • Keeping teams and sectors aware of relevant events to attend

Financial Analysis

  • Reviewing data provided by finance relating to billing, clients, new matters and new clients
  • Analysing data and spotting trends, opportunities and challenges

The Role Is Right for You If

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar business development or marketing role
  • An understanding of the legal sector (or broader professional services sector) is beneficial but not essential
  • You have excellent organisational skills
  • You possess the ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of staff and management at Clarke Willmott
  • You are a self-starter and able to work in a collaborative environment
  • You have a proven track record of managing projects

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills being able to build strong internal relationships
  • Experience and involvement in successful growth strategies
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and supporting functions
  • Confidence to build strong working relationships with senior lawyers and respectfully challenge when needed
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft office suite and ability to run webinars in Teams
  • CRM and Vuture experience beneficial but not essential
  • Events organisation experience
