About The Role
Our Employment team is seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to join our Birmingham office. The national team is headed by Marc Long with support from four other partners. Our Employment & HR team operates from Bristol, Taunton, Manchester, Southampton and Birmingham, providing a full range of services primarily to corporate clients.
Day to day, you’ll be successful in this role by:
- Working on a varied mix of contentious and non‑contentious employment matters for corporate employer clients, with occasional work for senior executives and claimants.
- Allocating time between dispute work and general advisory work, with occasional corporate support.
- Handling complex, high‑value contentious cases, developing expertise on technical and strategically challenging matters.
- Taking a lead role in business development, including seminars, networking events and drafting guidance and articles.
- Receiving support and resources from the national team.
- Engaging in client contact and taking on significant responsibility.
- Complying with information security and firm policies and procedures.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6+ years post‑qualification experience (PQE).
- Good experience of handling wide ranging employment law, HR matters and Tribunal cases for employers, prepared from inception to final hearing.
- Experience managing and complying with directions, including detailed discovery exercises and witness statement preparation.
- Advised clients on day‑to‑day employment issues: disciplinary proceedings, grievances, redundancies, discrimination issues.
- Experience preparing contracts of employment, policies/handbooks, settlement agreements and some employment‑based data protection work.
- Excellent team player capable of collaborating with solicitors to provide commercial solutions.
- Interest in business development and growing the practice.
- Solid drafting, research and advisory skills, with practical, commercially minded advice, excellent client care and organisational skills.
