We are looking for a Paralegal to support our well-regarded Restructuring & Insolvency team. Your home office will be Bristol or Birmingham, but you will be assisting the whole team. Our national Restructuring & Insolvency team is led by 4 Partners, with 3 senior associates and 1 associate also well settled within the team. The team covers all offices, but its main hubs are Bristol (two partners, two senior associates) and Birmingham (one partner, one senior associate and one associate).
This is an opportunity to build experience across a wide range of assignments, involving both contentious litigation and non-contentious advisory and transactional work, acting for insolvency practitioners, directors/lenders, landlords, creditors and debtors and others. In this newly created position, your work will vary from day to day and will be supervised in accordance with internal policy, but will include:
- Assisting in drafting and preparing documents for filing or issue at court, including preparing relevant bundles;
- Assisting on corporate transactions including drafting and negotiating documents;
- Liaising/corresponding with court staff, counsel (and counsel’s clerks), clients, colleagues and third parties;
- Drafting letters, witness statements, application and other notices, board minutes, shareholder resolutions and other documents;
- Carrying out research (using AI appropriately);
- Conducting searches, e.g. winding up, HM Land Registry, Companies House;
- Filing documents at court using CE-filing;
- Attending court/meetings (remotely or in person), taking notes and providing summaries;
- Responding to and dealing with initial enquiries coming into the team and from internal sources.
You will also have the opportunity to get involved in business development activities as a valued member of the friendly Restructuring & Insolvency team. Working under supervision, in addition to supporting larger assignments, you will, after a period of time, also be able to take responsibility for progressing more straightforward matters with direct engagement with client, court and counsel. As a fee earner you will be responsible for recording your chargeable time and contributing to the revenue of the team. It is an integral part of this role that you comply with information security and all firm policies and procedures, whilst also being a team player.
The role is right for you if:
- You will have a relevant, ideally legal, experience or a solid grounding in the law.
- You may have some paralegal experience (in any field) and you’ll be keen to develop your legal career at Clarke Willmott.
- You’ll need a strong intellect to succeed in this role, so we will be looking for a corresponding level of consistent academic achievement.
- You’ll also need to show us that you have initiative, drive and great organisational skills.
- The work requires self-motivation, resilience and the ability to work to demanding deadlines.
- You will relish helping others and be eager to learn.
- We expect you to be someone who takes pride in your work and who will provide a first class support service to your fee earners, anticipating their needs in advance wherever possible, and paying meticulous attention to detail in all of your work.
- Good interpersonal skills and a friendly and helpful attitude are musts.
