Due to an increase in workload, the business now requires an experienced HGV Technician at our Vehicle Maintenance Unit in Oldbury, West Midlands.
Working as a key member of the VMU team, you will carry out routine maintenance, fault diagnosis and repairs as required, ensuring our vehicles are maintained and repaired to the highest standards.
Role Responsibilities- Complete designated workload, as directed by the VMU Supervisor, which includes but is not limited to vehicle repairs, maintenance, services, MOTs and breakdowns.
- Ensure that job work orders are maintained, to specified standards and scheduled deadlines.
- Ensure the correct use of fabrication, materials, parts, and equipment.
- Maintain records of labour, materials, parts, supplies and other records necessary, in accordance with Company processes.
- Adhere to the Company’s ‘Safety First’ culture operating a safe, environment sound and hygienic working environment.
- Ensure the work areas are kept clear and clean and that equipment is stored in its correct location when not in use, promoting the principle of clean-as-you-go, wherever possible.
- Ensure any maintenance issues to equipment and / or vehicles used by the VMU are reported promptly to the VMU Supervisor.
- When required, drive a Company vehicle safely and in accordance with the law, to complete multi-drop deliveries and collections, some of which may contain hazardous materials.
- Complete a daily pre shift check on vehicle for safety and compliance.
- Supervise the loading and unloading of the vehicle, so that products are safely loaded and strapped or unloaded, to minimise chances of damage to goods or potential contamination or harm.
- Ensure that the vehicle is parked safely, goods arrive / are removed on time and safely and respect our customers’ property.
- Use of a fork-lift truck to load/unload your vehicle, where necessary.
- Ensure that the movement and storage of goods and materials within your decks and warehouses are managed systematically, productively and safely.
- Occasional manual handling of loose items in, on and off the vehicle, which can vary in size and weight and may involve heavy lifting.
- You will also be expected to climb on and off the vehicles whilst loading and unloading them in accordance with company guidelines.
- Ensure that the load is correct against the customer’s order, completing the relevant paperwork and obtain the relevant signature and print.
- When necessary, you will be expected to handle customer queries / issues effectively and contact the management team for assistance, if required.
- Be the ‘face’ of our business, by providing excellent customer service, in terms of safe and timely deliveries / removals, professional appearance and demeanour and upkeep of your vehicle.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the driving cab and maintenance of the vehicle, including completing a daily vehicle inspection sheet in accordance with Company guidelines.
- Any maintenance issues should be reported promptly as per Company guidelines.
- Report any accidents as soon as possible, in accordance with the Company’s accident reporting procedure.
- Ensure own training qualifications are current and remain compliant, with business needs, including valid LGV qualification, ADR qualification, Driver Certificate of Professional Competency (CPC) and Forklift Certificate where applicable.
- To complete any other reasonable duties as instructed by the management team.
- City & Guilds / NVQ level 3, hold IRTEC accreditation.
- Clean driving licence.
- Experience with the Mercedes & Volvo brands along with Tail Lift systems would also be an advantage.
- Service and repair of heavy and light commercial vehicles: 2 years (preferred).
- MOT preparation and inspections: 2 years (preferred).
- Fault diagnosis of both mechanical and electrical systems: 2 years (preferred).
- Shifts 0600 – 1430 & 1430 – 2300 (30 min Break) Monday to Friday.
- Salary £38,542 per annum OTE. £18.53 per hour.
- 20 Days plus 8 statutory holidays (28 days in total).
- Additional Holiday after 4 years’ service – Extra Day for every additional year’s service up to a maximum of 5 extra days.
