Clarke is seeking a highly skilled, organised and proactive Electrical Design Lead to support the delivery of mobile telecommunications infrastructure across the UK. This is a key technical role for someone with strong electrical engineering expertise, excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver high-quality, compliant and build-ready designs while working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
The Role
As an Electrical Design Lead, you will play a crucial role in the design and delivery of new and upgraded mobile telecoms sites, including macro towers, rooftops, small cells and in-building systems. Working closely with Radio, Transmission, Civils, Power and Build teams, you will produce technically accurate designs that comply with regulatory and industry standards and support efficient project delivery.
You will act as an electrical subject-matter expert, contribute to feasibility assessments, guide technical decision-making and liaise with operators, local authorities and external stakeholders. The role also includes supporting process improvements, safety governance and the development of innovative design approaches across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and approve electrical designs for telecoms sites, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, standards and safety protocols.
- Act as the qualified Electrical QS for projects, ensuring robust certification and governance.
- Conduct site feasibility assessments, including power availability, structural constraints, access considerations and budget implications.
- Collaborate with internal engineering functions to ensure integrated, buildable and efficient design solutions.
- Liaise with clients, mobile network operators, DNOs/IDNOs and local authorities to support project delivery.
- Provide technical input into tenders, subcontractor engagements and project bids.
- Ensure design accuracy, documentation quality and adherence to Clarke Telecoms MASTS, HSEQ and governance standards.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design processes and project outcomes.
- Represent Clarke Telecom in technical meetings, providing clear, professional updates.
- Support and mentor colleagues, contributing to team capability and knowledge sharing.
- Carry out additional duties aligned to the role as required to support operational needs.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Strong background in electrical engineering within utilities, telecoms or related infrastructure sectors.
- Experience delivering electrical or telecoms design work, ideally within the NERS/ICP environment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- Strong organisational ability and high attention to detail.
- Proficiency with electrical design software (e.g., WinDebut, PSSE, DigSilent).
- Valid UK driving licence.
Desirable:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Membership of the IET; Incorporated/Chartered Engineer status.
- Previous experience within the mobile infrastructure or telecoms industry.
