Our client is one of the largest construction companies within the UK with internationally‑renowned experience in the successful delivery of technically demanding, multi‑disciplinary and logistically complex projects. Due to a significant workload, they now have a requirement for a Senior Civils Estimator ideally from a main contractor background with multi‑million pound civils estimating experience. You will manage the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates including pricing structures, earthworks and drainage within a civils environment.
You should have experience of a full range of civil engineering projects:
- New Road Construction
- Existing Road Improvements
- Bridge Construction
- Public Realm Works
- Coastal Defence Works
Role: Take responsibility for production of estimates and cost plans to be included in tender submissions under a multitude of procurement routes. The role will include but not be limited to, liaison with Consultants, Clients and internal colleagues as appropriate in the formulation and submission of bids. Contribute to the preparation of complete tenders.
Responsibilities:
- Appraisal of tender documents
- Preparation of material and sub‑contract enquiries including selection of prospective subcontractors
- Attending strategy/opportunity meetings with project team
- Visit site to identify site specific risks
- Contribute to the design development process and attend design team meetings
- Preparing tender Bills of Quantities
- Preparation of analytical cost estimates including preliminaries
- Adjudication and comparison of sub‑contractor quotations
- Presentation of the cost estimate to senior management at tender settlement meetings
- Completion of tender documentation and submission of the tender
- Ensure a smooth handover of the project to the site team
- Prepare BOQ for scopes of projects on estimating programs (such as Excel, Causeway, CCS Candy & Kubus)
Requirements:
- Appropriate civil engineering related degree/HND or similar
- Awareness of Industry procurement methods
- Understanding of Whole Life Costs (desirable)
- Experienced at producing Bills of Quantities/elemental quantities
- The individual will preferably have experience in pricing structures, road construction and improvements, bridges, public realm works, earthworks and drainage
- Knowledge and experience of “first principle” analytical estimating across structures, earthworks, roads, bridges and drainage
- Experience with all forms of contract
- Supervisory and organisational experience
- Cost Planning “rates” across relevant sectors
