Overview
Clark Wood are currently working with an established independent accountancy practice in the Stockport area, who are looking to recruit an Accounts Senior to join their supportive and close-knit team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ACA / ACCA qualified or part-qualified accountant (or QBE), who is keen to take on more responsibility and continue progressing within a well‑run and reputable firm. The practice has a strong focus on staff development and offers a clear path for career progression. Unlike larger firms where roles can be narrowly defined, this position offers exposure across accounts preparation, tax, VAT, and client advisory work. You will take ownership of your own client portfolio while working closely with senior members of the team and reporting directly to the Partners.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of year‑end accounts and corporation tax computations
- Supporting with VAT returns, bookkeeping, and management accounts
- Managing your own portfolio of clients, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery
- Acting as a day‑to‑day point of contact for clients and handling queries professionally
- Identifying opportunities to add value beyond compliance and offering practical advice
- Collaborating with colleagues and supporting the wider team
- Contributing ideas to improve processes and service delivery
Ideal Candidate
- ACA / ACCA qualified or part‑qualified, with at least 3 years practice experience
- Experienced in accounts preparation, VAT, and corporation tax
- Familiar with cloud accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage
- Detail‑oriented, proactive, and confident working independently
- A strong communicator with a client‑focused approach
- Ambitious, with a clear desire to progress within a growing firm
