A highly regarded independent accountancy practice is looking to appoint an experienced Audit Senior, Assistant Manager, or Manager to join its growing team. The firm has built an excellent reputation within the SME and owner‑managed business market and is known for delivering a high‑quality, relationship‑led service across audit, accounts, and advisory work. Although relatively small in size, the practice consistently punches above its weight in terms of the quality of its client portfolio, technical exposure, and level of responsibility given to staff.

The environment is highly collaborative, commercially focused, and far less corporate than larger firms, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy autonomy, visibility, and close client interaction. This is an urgent requirement driven by continued growth within the audit function, with the firm ideally looking for someone able to start in June, July, or August.

The role will be approximately 70% audit focused, with the remaining exposure covering accounts preparation, business advisory support, and some tax‑related work across a varied portfolio of clients. The firm operates with a genuinely flat and horizontal structure, meaning individuals are given exposure and responsibility based on capability rather than hierarchy alone. Employees work closely with senior leadership and Partners, gaining far greater visibility internally than would typically be available within larger corporate firms.

The practice has embraced modern systems and operates within a fully paperless environment using cloud‑based audit software, allowing for a more efficient and streamlined approach to audit delivery. The culture is professional yet highly personable, with a strong emphasis on collaboration, trust, and long‑term staff development. This opportunity would be particularly well suited to someone currently working within a small or medium‑sized accountancy practice who enjoys managing a broad and varied workload, building client relationships, and operating within a more hands‑on environment.

The firm also offers genuinely strong long‑term progression opportunities, with clear potential to progress towards Senior Manager, Director, and potentially Partnership level over time for the right individual.

Key Responsibilities
  • Managing statutory audits from planning stage through to completion and finalisation.
  • Leading audit assignments across a varied client portfolio.
  • Preparing and reviewing audit files in line with accounting and auditing standards.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients throughout assignments.
  • Supervising and supporting junior staff members during fieldwork and completion stages.
  • Preparing and reviewing statutory accounts for owner‑managed businesses and SME clients.
  • Assisting with corporation tax and wider business advisory matters where required.
  • Supporting Partners and senior leadership with portfolio management and client delivery.
  • Identifying opportunities to add value and strengthen client relationships.
Candidate Profile
  • ACA / ACCA qualified or qualified by experience.
  • Strong experience managing audits from planning through to completion independently.
  • Previous experience within a small or medium‑sized accountancy practice environment.
  • Strong client‑facing and communication skills.
  • Good technical knowledge across audit and accounts preparation.
  • Organised and capable of managing multiple assignments effectively.
  • Ambitious and motivated by long‑term progression opportunities.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing junior staff work would be advantageous.
  • Exposure to cloud‑based audit software would be beneficial, although not essential.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
  • High‑quality independent practice with an excellent reputation.
  • Varied and interesting client portfolio.
  • Modern, paperless working environment.
  • Genuine autonomy and responsibility.
  • Collaborative and supportive culture.
  • Flat structure with clear long‑term progression opportunities.
  • Opportunity to work closely with senior leadership and decision‑makers.
  • Realistic route towards Senior Manager, Director, and potentially Partnership level over time.

My client is committed to building an inclusive, collaborative, and forward‑thinking workplace where people are valued for who they are and supported to achieve their full potential. Diversity, innovation, and continuous development sit at the heart of the firm’s culture. The role is ideal for candidates with relevant experience in a UK accountancy practice. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.
